The useful first move is to separate decisions from hauling. Protect what stays, document what leaves, and make the access route part of the plan.

Make decisions before lifting starts

Move the items you are keeping away from the removal route. Use a review zone for anything that needs another person’s decision.

Separate restricted materials

Paint, fuel, pesticides, batteries, propane tanks, and other hazardous household products need their own disposal plan. Manatee County says these materials should not go in regular trash.

Group the ordinary items

Keep furniture together, flatten clean cardboard, box small loose items, and identify any equipment that is unusually heavy or difficult to grip.

Finish with access

Clear the driveway and garage threshold. Tell the provider about low clearances, steep approaches, or community rules that affect truck access.

Local disposal note: Manatee County’s current solid-waste guidance separates household hazardous waste and special items from ordinary garbage and bulk collection. Check the county’s Waste Wizard for the exact item.
